Director Jan Teeuwisse is professor by special appointment, at Leiden University, on account of Sculptuur Instituut. His specialism is modern and contemporary Dutch sculpture in an international context. In this capacity, he supervises different research projects. Emma van Proosdij, with a research project on the tradition of abstract sculpture in The Netherlands 1945-2000
Roosmarijn Hompe, with a research project on cultural diplomacy and Dutch international cultural policies 1945-1980
Dick van Broekhuizen, with a research project on 19th century French sculpture, entitled "Terribly repulsive but wonderfully vigorous". Reverse engeneering Emmanuel Fremiet's Gorilles 1859-1888.
