Jan Teeuwisse's special appointment as professor of modern sculpture at Leiden University has been extended for five years till 2021-22.
The chair aims to promote academic research about modern and contemporary international sculpture and its historiography, viewed as a cultural product anchored in society and closely related to other forms of visual art.
Teaching and research will focus on three main topics: modernity/postmodernity, interculturality and intermediality; placing the historiography of modern and contemporary sculpture in the Netherlands in an international perspective;
Study of the autonomous sculptural object and reflection upon the material nature of sculpture and on the boundaries of the sculptural concept as this has gained in importance in both theory and museological art history.
