The Theo Scholten Lecture is a yearly lecture, honoring the remembrance of one of the founders of the museum Beelden aan Zee and of the Sculptuur Instituut, prof. dr. Theo Scholten. One lecturer is invited to speak, for about one hour, about sculptural history, practice or theory. The lecturer could be art historian, critic, artist or scientist. This edition (2016-17), we have invited artist Hans van Houwelingen to speak.
Earlier editions included lectures by Prof. dr Paul Schnabel (on the future of private collections in The Netherlands) and artist Jacob van der Beugel (on his projects involving ceramics and DNA).
Visiting guests are invited by the Curatorium of the professorship / Chair Geschiedenis, theorie en praktijk van de moderne beeldhouwkunst [History, theory and practices in modern sculpture] at Leiden University, on behalf of Sculptuur Instituut.
